Press Release: Canon confirms its commitment to support young filmmakers and for the second year sponsoring the Berlinale Talents, an event dedicated to the creative talents of the film industry that takes place in the calendar of the International Film Festival of Berlin. Canon, Principal Partner of the Berlinale Talents, will sponsor a series of master classes organized for more than 300 talents of the film industry, and some workshops that will feature world-renowned professionals and innovative solutions from Canon.

The workshops, which will be held from 8 to 13 February 2014, will be organized in collaboration with Canon and offer valuable advice and suggestions to filmmakers and industry professionals. These workshops, entitled ‘Every Picture Tells a Story’, will also be an opportunity to learn more about the latest technological innovations in the field of recovery, with practical demonstrations of how the Canon solutions can be of support to production. Among the speakers stand known professionals in the film industry as Franz Lustig (How I Live Now), Stefan Ciupek (Slumdog Millionaire) and Christopher Doyle (In The Mood For Love).

Canon will also support several master classes that see the participation of renowned directors of photography, including Agnès Godard, who will talk about their experiences and discuss how filming techniques can improve the film production. The ‘Post-Production Studio’, created by the Berlinale Talents in collaboration with Canon, will be dedicated to digital workflows, by the steps of shooting and editing to color correction until the final stage of production optimization. A select number of participants will also have the opportunity to try out the Canon EOS C300, EOS C500 and EOS 5D Mark III.

For the first time, Canon will select some short films presented by emerging talents at the event which will be shot with the Canon solutions. The short films will be screened at various European events on the Canon and Canon Professional Network.

“The technology and creativity are only a part of the filmmaking process, and without an extensive network of contacts, it becomes very difficult to make a film, “said Kieran Magee, Director of Professional Imaging at Canon Europe. “Berlinale Talents support filmmakers through all stages of the production process, and we are honored to contribute to a program so innovative.”

In addition to the program of workshops, Joerg Kyas, the famous portrait photographer and Canon Explorer, use the Canon solutions in their own studio to create portraits of each of the 300 participants at the Berlinale Talents 2014. The Canon solutions will be used during the event also to produce films and promotional trailers.

Talents Berlinale will run for six days and will take place at the International Film Festival of Berlin, from 8 to February 13, 2014. They can participate in emerging professionals who have not more than ten years of his career and working in different areas of the market, including actors, directors of photography, technical installation, manufacturers, designers, distributors, sound designers and composers.
