Canon EOS 70D, dual autofocus to keep everyone happy - Tom's Hardware Guide

EOS 70D SLR is the new mid-range of Canon , designed to replace the earlier models “double-digit”, and in particular the EOS 60D.

latter represented, for Canon, a transition model. The EOS 50D even earlier, in fact, was the only mid-range model in the catalog, and it was for this intended to cover all the prosumer market and semi-professional. The 60D has instead inserted in a catalog that already had the EOS 7D to guard the semi-professional segment, and it was for this “downgraded” to prosumer model – well, alongside several upgrades, it was noted in the 60D also some downgrade compared to the past (shooting interval of everything).

With the 70D, Canon maintains positioning prosumer, but starts to enter into this important segment changes (especially in terms of autofocus system, but also the overall performance) that make the 70D a model much higher than its predecessor.

At the time of this writing is on the street, body only, in the neighborhood of 1050 Euro (less than 1200 Euro list price) , which puts it in direct competition with the Nikon D7100, but also with the Sony SLT A65, interesting and cheaper alternative to the more budget conscious.

resolution tests were performed with the optics kit 18-135mm IS STM (list price of the kit about 1575 Euro).
