print a lot, you know? Me less. I try to aim for the improbable and yet so fantasized paperless (yes it was funny fantasies among geeks). For several reasons: practical, ergonomic, economic and ecological. Put it in the order you prefer.

So

printer takes a long time to me, several years at least, and with a good machine changes or refills cartridges occur once or twice a year at the most. A true citizen eco-responsible printing.

So, this economy of means has its downside: I have very little monitoring the evolution of the small world of printing. And I confess that I am a little amazed by the progress of the past “mainstream” jet printers ink, which offer today – often for ridiculous prices in view of services – a range of features worthy those of professional printers.

This is the case of this printer WiFi Scanner Canon PIXMA MG7150 upscale, recently arrived on the market, the brand has given me for this test. The machine is relatively heavy and heavy with dimensions of 466 x 369 x 148 mm and a weight exceeding 8kg (8200g exactly). Obviously, when you’re used to test instead of smartphones, it changes a little. Station lumbago when you leave the beast of the box to place it on your desktop

Friendly and autonomous

getting started is easy and takes place in a dozen steps to unpack the first impression (you should always make a good first impression). Note: the six cartridges have a red LED that lights up the installation and to check that they are fitted correctly in their homes. Canon PIXMA MG7150 is a three-in-one versatile wants to know also good at printing text documents pure photographs. For this it requires no less than six separate cartridges, two black (one for text, one for the photo).

It is also equipped with the essential color 3.5-inch diagonal touch screen that allows you to control all machine controls, and a door that can accommodate three memory card formats, to Read SD, Memory Stick and CompactFlash, which eliminates the need a computer to print photos. Two loading trays independent paper are available: a drawer for conventional paper (printing documents up to 125 sheets) and the other just above, for photo paper (up to 20 sheets). Another feature that always amazes me on a machine of this price. It can print double-sided and is also known to manage printing on CDs and DVDs

side scanner, there is a color flatbed scanner that also does not lag behind too way since it takes forty seconds to reproduce an image in A4 format with a resolution of 600 dots.

The print quality is very good, whether for text or photos. Canon PIXMA MG7150 but not only out quality prints: she can also do it fast, very fast indeed, since it takes 25 seconds to get a photo at 10 × 15. For other impressions, we are in the middle: I counted 8 pages per minute for black printing and 5 pages per minute for color in normal mode. In eco mode or draft one goes to 11 pages per minute, with a little less contrast text but nothing insurmountable, even for professional use.

Cloud Live

The printer is equipped with a WiFi connection which offers several options: Connect to an access point (and therefore print wirelessly from your PC via your home network), but also direct printing via smartphone tablet. With an iPhone or iPad, this is a direct application to install without using AirPrint. For Android you need to install the free application Pixma Printing. Another possibility offered by WiFi: direct printer connection to multiple cloud services, such as Picasa, Flickr or Dropbox via the touch screen. We can then print directly from Word, PDF document or even photos stored online at one of these services without going through the computer.

In conclusion

A printer-scanner-combo wireless cloud of very good quality, easy to use and providing high quality prints at a speed quite satisfactory. Maybe we just regret the size and weight of this machine, but it certainly is the price to pay for equipment that will satisfy the needs in individual and small business structures. The quality of photo prints is amazing and allows you to create small posters up to A4 size without going through a third party service.

The Canon PIXMA MG7150 is available in two colors: black and white (you can also choose to display based background) and is generally sold at a price between 150 and 170 euros depending on the sign or site.
