Today we offer a photographic comparison between the two cameras and high-end that have nothing to do with the smartphone segment. The Canon EOS 600D is indeed a classic SLR with interchangeable lenses and a camera body very classic for the segment. Samsung Galaxy NX is instead the first Mirrorless interchangeable lenses and with Android operating system. Two very different products that are conceptually and few points of contact if not for the goals fitted: 18-55mm.
We used throughout IFA 2013, the new Galaxy NX and, combined with our work, we were really pleased. It is a very special product (at the moment there is no competition in fact) that is in the presence of the LTE module, Wi-Fi, GPS and Android three virtually unique features when united with interchangeable lenses.
What appreciates against the 600D SLR or other similar use everyday is:
- Improved ease of use in automatic mode (fast shutter speed, focus faster)
- Lighter body machine
- Better management of the manual focus ring on the lens for both positioning (of course changes from goal to goal and we refer to the standard packages with 18.55mm) than for software management. The NX magnifies the detail with a digital magnification on the screen to be able to bring a sharper focus on the subject to take the picture (we will show in the final video review)
- more potential in the management of images with Android and social sharing (tag photos with automatic logo included)
- much larger screen
- Ability to pause a video without stop it
On the contrary, especially for an audience accustomed to the world particularly expert or SLR cameras, there are some things that could be improved or not to go “a genius”:
- Lack of information on the bezel (screen are turning the ring)
- Lack of a dedicated button to ISO (it’s on the touch screen)
- almost complete by touch screen
- Management Viewfinder very different (the NX turns off the display automatically approaching the eye but the viewfinder is nothing more than the touch screen shown in small text)
- Management manual settings less practical (perhaps only a matter of habit?)
- Times ignition immediate reflex, content NX
Management
These are the difference “use” and not in terms of quality. Unfortunately or fortunately, having interchangeable lenses, photo quality can change in a huge way depending on the lens mounted and therefore able to give a completely objective judgment on the quality of NX camera is certainly not easy.

The examples that we showed above were all done under the same conditions with settings Automatic, Auto WB with complex settings and drive for both machines. In a few clicks you used the macro mode or manual focus, but always with automatic settings for all other options.
As you may have noticed there are some differences in color depending on the subjects. Changes not too significant but still present and depended on the different technologies used by Canon and Samsung to goals and optics. Stressing that this is not a comparison of professional and do not want to analyze point by point the differences in photos taken, we can still feel the NX great camera.
For our use, sharing via social and above all on the field at IFA, NX was almost irreplaceable and level of autonomy do not have problems to get through the day with 30% charge also using the internet and wi-fi on an ongoing basis. A product so far very interesting, comprehensive and practical in all circumstances where the only true flaw is the price off target. You pay the exclusivity of the product, the uniqueness of the characteristics and the total lack of competition with similar specifications (Android).
