New York Times has published an article about the future of camera manufacturers, in which the analyst Yu Yoshida is expressed by saying that only Canon , Nikon and Sony will have a good chance of surviving into the future. This is because only those who have a strong brand and a competitive price can withstand the harsh law of the market. Canon and Nikon dominate the market for some time SLR cameras , while Sony could survive, thanks to the realization of sensors for a number of camera manufacturers and the collaboration with the its smartphone division.
Panasonic, Olympus and Fujifilm, are trying to repel the threat smartphone, cutting and staking everything on compact mirrorless . But despite this, they had a major drop in sales in the last period.
This is the prediction of an industry expert and you can agree or not, but in my view, I consider it more appropriate to the prediction of a given product, while overreach on the future of one or more companies is a bit ‘a chance.
